The Southern Miss softball team is coming off a 2-2 performance last weekend, at the Gator Invitational, in Gainesville, Fla., and remains on the road to play a single game at Southeastern Louisiana, on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m. The game will not have Live Stats featured on SouthernMiss.com.
Sarah Boyd and Amanda Brown lead the Southern Miss hitters. Both earned all-tournament honors at the Gator Invitational. Brown batted .417 (5-for-12) in the four games in Gainesville, and Boyd hit .333 (4-for-12) with a double and an RBI.
On the year, Boyd is batting .450 with a run scored, three doubles and four RBIs. She has hit safely in 6-of-7 games this season. Brown currently claims a four-game hitting streak and is batting .389.
Jessica Holaway is 2-2 on the year, with two saves. She has a 2.28 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 27.2 innings. Danielle Wymer is 2-1 this season, with a 2.67 ERA and five strikeouts in 18.1 innings.
The Lions started the season losing their first five games. They ended the losing streak with a 5-3 win over Tulsa last weekend.
Ashley Walker leads SLU with a .455 batting average. She is 10-for-22 with three runs scored and an RBI. Raeni Landry is batting .385 (5-for-13) with a run, two doubles, and three RBIs.
Four pitchers have been in the circle for the Lions. Emily Stelly leads the hurlers with a 1-3 record, a 6.86 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 21.0 innings.
The Lady Eagles follow up the trip to Hammond, La., with a trip to Columbus, Ga., for the weekend. They will play in the NFCA Leadoff Classic on Feb. 21-23.
On Friday, Feb. 21, Southern Miss will play Nebraska at 4 p.m., and Stanford at 6:30 p.m., Central Standard Time. On Saturday, Feb. 22, the Lady Eagles will face North Carolina at 11:30 a.m., and then bracket play will begin at 4 p.m.
