All-American Football Foundation Announces Awards
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Several former and current Golden Eagle athletes are scheduled to receive awards at the All-American Football Foundation Banquet of Champions XXXVIII on Feb. 11 at the Grand Casino Hotel in Biloxi.
Current Football Coach Jeff Bower will receive the Johnny Vaught All-American Head Coach Award and his wife, Debbie, is the "First Lady" of football honoree. Bower has been associated with the Southern Miss football program for over 25 years, including the last 12 years as head coach, during a period when the Golden Eagles have enjoyed unprecedented success, winning three Conference USA championships and receiving five bowl invitations in the past six years.
Other Southern Miss honorees include:
Former Southern Miss standout tackle John Perkins(1957-58) is named a Legends Honoree.
Little All-American Don Owens (1953-56) and Hugh McInnis (1957-59) are the Little All-American honorees.
Hamp Cook (1952-54), former USM standout and scout with New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles will receive the Lamar Hunt Pro Football Award.
Colonel Edward Kauchick (1949-51), who served in three wars, is the Admiral Thomas J. Hamilton honoree.
Bill Wade Unsung Hero Honorees will include Billy Larson (1959-60), John Tapper (1971-72), Marvin Breazeale (1961-62) and Doug Mims (1952-53)
Current Jones Junior College Head Football Coach Parker Dykes, a former Southern Miss assistant (1972), will receive the Foundation's Mike Campbell Top Assistant Coach Award
