Southern Miss Cheerleaders Best In The State
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? The University of Southern Mississippi Cheerleading Squad recently qualified for the National Championships being held in Orlando, Fla., on Jan. 16, 2004. The squad has been practicing hard for the past two months in order to qualify and was pleased with the outcome.
Southern Miss placed seventh in the South Region beating out in-state rival Ole? Miss and conference-rival Memphis. Even more impressive, the team beat out last year?s National Champion, the University of Central Florida. The squad will spend its time between now and the middle of January preparing and performing the routine at several events prior to the national competition. The first scheduled event will be on Dec. 6 at the Deep South Cheer competition held here in Hattiesburg at the Lake Terrace Convention Center. In addition, it will perform at both a Southern Miss men?s and women?s basketball game (dates to be determined). Also placing were Robert Dillingham and Angela Martin with a finish of 10
