Southern Miss Postgame Notes
vs. (9/10) TCU
? With the 40-28 victory over TCU, the Golden Eagles clinch at least a share of the 2003 Conference
? Southern Miss? victory over nationally-ranked TCU, who is No. 9 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and No. 10 in the Associated Press Poll, is the first regular-season win over a ranked-opponent since a 21-0 victory over No. 13 Alabama in 2000. The Golden Eagles also defeated No. 13 TCU in the GMAC Mobile Alabama Bowl that season, 28-21.
? The win is the first-ever over a ranked opponent in M.M. Roberts Stadium. The Horned Frogs also are the third-highest ranked team to fall to Southern Miss, with No. 4 Ole Miss falling, 30-14, in 1970 and No. 6 Florida State losing 30-26 in 1989. That game was a ?home? game for Southern Miss, but was played in
? Southern Miss has now rolled off five wins in a row, the first such streak since winning six games in a row in the 2000 season.

? Quarterback Dustin Almond won his fifth-straight game since regaining his starting position against USF. Almond finished the game with 227 yards and three touchdowns on 14-of-23 passing. He also threw one interception, his first in four games. The multi-touchdown game was Almond?s fifth-straight and the fifth overall of his career. Almond now has 12 touchdowns of the season ? all in the last five games ? and the total is more than Southern Miss threw as a team last season (11). The three-touchdown night tied his career-high, matching his three-touchdown game against UL Lafayette.
? Running back Anthony Harris gained just 47 yards on 22 carries in the game, but he scored two touchdowns. It was Harris? first multi-touchdown game since scoring three times against
? Wide receiver Marvin Young again led the team in receiving, grabbing six catches for 80 yards and scoring one touchdown. Young also had two punt returns for 53 yards, including a long of 52. Young now has scored in the fifth game in a row, with touchdown grabs in four of them. Last week, Young scored on a two-point conversion.
? Redshirt junior receiver DaRon Lawrence was second on the team with three catches for 56 yards and a touchdown.
? Sophomore receiver Antwon Courington finished with 25 yards on two catches and scored his second touchdown of the year.
? Freshman place-kicker Darren McCaleb connected on both a 39-yard field goal and a 42-yarder in the game. He has now made good four straight and 12 of his last 13 field goal attempts. He is 13-of-15 this season. McCaleb also was 4-of-4 in extra point tries.
? TCU?s three fourth-quarter touchdowns marks the first time Southern Miss has allowed three touchdowns in a game since the 38-14 loss to Nebraska on Sept. 25.
? Southern Miss had five players with more than 10 tackles in the game, paced by Rod Davis? game-high 14 stops (five solos). Alex Ray added 13 tackles (seven solos), while Michael Boley and Etric Pruitt both had 12 tackles, including seven solos apiece. Trevis Coley had 10 tackles (six solos).
