Weather Changes Golden Eagles' Practice Routine HATTIESBURG, Miss. -
Southern Miss practiced at the USM Payne Center, splitting work with the offense, defense and special teams, as well as factoring in meetings during the two-plus hour practice session.
Despite the change in routine, Southern Miss Head Coach Jeff Bower saw good work from his players.
"It was good," Bower said. "We had to go inside, and it was the best we could do under the circumstances. The defense went in first, and then we had everyone together and we did what we could in the kicking game. The offense then stayed and finished up. We added in some meeting time, so we did as well as we could."
The team also will practice Wednesday for an hour-and-a-half before taking on TCU at 6:45 p.m., Thursday, in a game that could decide the Conference USA championship. And with all that could be at stake, Bower knows the Southern Miss fan attendance will be among the best of the season.
"Our fans will come out," Bower said. "This is a big game, and they will respond. They've helped us all year long, and they will be loud and enthusiastic. I think we have a chance to have a packed house."
The Southern Miss/ISP Sports Network will broadcast the game with the "Voice of the Golden Eagles" John Cox serving as the play-by-play announcer. Former Southern Miss quarterback Vic Purvis will handle the color analysis, and Lance Pittman will be the sideline reporter.
