Southern Miss Continues Alabama Preparation HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss Golden Eagles continued its game-week preparation for Alabama with an afternoon workout on Tuesday, and Head Coach Jeff Bower has been pleased with his team's effort.
"The practices have been pretty good," Bower said. "We had a pretty good day today. We still have some work to do. We need to pick it up some more tomorrow, but I thought we worked hard today."
Southern Miss (3-2, 3-0 in Conference USA) takes on the Crimson Tide (2-4, 1-2 in SEC), Saturday, at Bryant Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Bower expects to have both running back Tim Blackwell (ankle) and defensive back Greg Brooks (ankle) to be ready for action against the Tide, along with wide receiver Anthony Perine (ankle). The status of offensive lineman Travis Cooley (knee) is still uncertain.
"I expect both Tim and Greg to play in the game," Bower said. "Travis Cooley is doing okay, but I don't know. I looked at him some on tape, but I don't know if he'll be ready to play. Everyone else is in good shape."
Saturday's game, slated for a 2:05 p.m., kickoff, will be televised on a pay-per-view basis. Residents of Mississippi and Alabama may call their local cable operator to order the game. The game also will be available on DISH Network or by calling 1-800-TVSTARS. It also is available as part of the ESPN GamePlan package.
