Southern Miss Concludes Louisiana-Lafayette Preparation HATTIESBURG, Miss. -
The team went through its final practice of the week Thursday afternoon. The Golden Eagles (4-3, 3-0 in Conference USA) take on the Ragin' Cajuns (2-7, 2-3 in the Sun Belt) at M.M. Roberts Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
Southern Miss Head Coach Jeff Bower liked what he saw from the final two days of practice.
"We had a pretty good week of work," Bower said. "I just hope our players understand that we will have to play extremely hard in this game. It's going to take a real good effort because we are playing a team that will play very hard and has some confidence because of the back-to-back wins."
Bower also was pleased with the mental preparation going into this game, the last non-conference contest of the year.
Running back James Walley (ankle) will not play in Saturday's game, but Bower said the team is healthy otherwise.
With Saturday's contest also serving as the 2003 homecoming, Bower expects a good crowd.
"We have great fans, and I certainly hope we can fill up the stadium," Bower said. "It should be a great day, and I know that our players are appreciative of our fan support. We hope that we have a good homecoming crowd."
The Southern Miss ISP Sports Network will broadcast the game live, with John Cox handling play-by-play duties and former Eagle quarterback Vic Purvis on color, and Lance Pittman on the sideline.
