Golden Eagles Wrap Up Cincinnati Preparation
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss Golden Eagles completed their game-week preparation for Cincinnati with a light workout, Thursday afternoon, at the Joe P. Park practice fields.
The practice was the final one before the team leaves for Cincinnati, Ohio, on Friday
Southern Miss (2-2, 2-0 in Conference USA) takes on the Bearcats (3-1, 1-0), Saturday, at Nippert Stadium. Kickoff for the game is slated for 6 p.m., CT.
Golden Eagles Head Coach Jeff Bower saw some good work from his players this week.
"We had a good week," Bower said. "The last couple of days we had some good practice."
Bower also has seen improvement in quarterback Damion Carter, who is making his first collegiate start, but the true freshman may still make some rookie mistakes.
"He has done well, but he will make some mistakes," Bower said. "Anyone is going to make mistakes. He will make some freshman errors, but he will forget about it and move on. He has a good attitude."
Bower said that running back Tim Blackwell should be ready to play in Saturday's game, but both defensive back Greg Brooks (ankle) and defensive end Ronald Jones (ankle) are questionable.
"They'll make the trip, but I don't know how much they'll play," Bower said. "You just can't ever tell with ankle injuries. Some guys get over it quick, and for others, the injury lingers."
The game will be broadcast on the Southern Miss/ISP Sports Network, with John Cox handling the play-by-play, Vic Purvis with analysis and Lance Pittman on the sideline. Broadcast for the game begins one hour prior to kickoff. The game will not be televised.
