Golden Eagle Football Players Earn Fall Academic Honors
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? The University of Southern Mississippi has released its academic honor rolls for the fall 2002 semester, and 25 members of the Golden Eagle football team were included on the list.
?We?re proud of our players and their classroom performance,? Southern Miss Head Coach Jeff Bower said. ?I think our players who performed well in this area in the fall, as well as our continued success in the classroom, proves not only that we?re consistent in this area but also that we place a high priority on academics. Players who perform well in the classroom are better players on the field.?
A total of 15 players earned Dean?s List honors, which recognizes students with a 3.25 grade point average or better on a minimum course load of 12 hours. Golden Eagles who were members of the fall 2002 Dean?s List include: John Baumgartner of Mandeville, La.; Seth Cumbie of Pace, Fla.; Micky D'Angelo of Gulfport, Miss.; Robby D'Angelo of Gulfport, Miss.; Mark Haulman of Vicksburg, Miss.; Derek Jacobs of Florence, Miss.; Jason Jimenez of Orlando, Fla.; Luke Johnson of Laurel, Miss.; Curt Jones of Greenwood, Miss.; Beau Maggio of DeRidder, La.; Derrick Nix of Attalla, Ala.; Jonathan Palmer of Tyler, Texas; Etric Pruitt of Theodore, Ala.; Torrin Tucker of Meridian, Miss.; and Chris Vaughn of Marraro, La.
Ten players were also recognized on the Athletic Director?s Honor Roll which recognizes student-athletes who achieve a minimum of a 3.0 grade-point average for a semester. Those Golden Eagles were: Brandon Ailes of Indianola, Miss.; Carlos Crusoe of Columbus, Miss.; Jim Hicks of Philadelphia, Miss.; Adam Hurst of Mandeville, La.; Neal Mead of Collins, Miss.; Tyler Patterson of Clanton, Ala.; Rashad Smith of Canton, Miss.; James Walley of State Line, Miss.; Zac White of Gardendale, Ala.; and Corey Yates of Holly Springs, Miss.
