Lambert Leaves Golden Eagle Basketball Squad
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Southern Miss Head Coach James Green announced today that senior center Ben Lambert has left the Golden Eagle basketball team.
"Ben decided to leave to concentrate on things that are more important to him than basketball, at this point in time,' Green Said. "He has made important contributions to our program, and we wish him the best in the future."
One of only two seniors on the Golden Eagle roster, Lambert did not dress for the recent Memphis game and did not travel to the South Florida game earlier in the week. Prior to his departure, he had appeared in 12 games, starting nine. He was averaging 2.4 points and 2.2 rebounds a game.
In his second season with the Golden Eagles after transferring from Okaloosa-Walton Community College, Lambert was the only Southern Miss player to start all 27 games last season. He averaged 6.4 points and 5.1 rebounds as a junior.
His best 2002-03 performances included an eight-point game against Arkansas-Little Rock and an eight-rebound game against Murray State.
