Southern Miss Begins Move To Athletic Center
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The final walk-throughs and inspections are complete on the first floor of the Southern Miss Athletic Center and now it is time to start moving into and using the new Southern Miss Athletic Center. Ground was broken for the building in early October 2000 and now the move will start taking place Thursday afternoon.
The training room will make the first move, starting Thursday afternoon, July 11, and will continue to move the remainder of its equipment and offices on Friday, July 12. The equipment department will make its move on Monday, July 15 and Tuesday, July 16, and the new state-of-the-art equipment and offices for the weight room will be moving in on Friday, July 19.
The Southern Miss football team will begin using the training room next week, and the first time the team will use the spacious lockerroom and weight facility will be Monday, July 22nd.
The Golden Eagle statues, each with a wingspan of 15 feet, will be placed in position sometime within the next few weeks. One will be situated in the Circle of Champions recognition area between M. M. Roberts Stadium and the Athletic Center. An identical cast iron eagle welcomes people as they enter the front of the building as well.
