Lady Eagles Win Extra-Inning Battle Against Louisville

Jessica Holaway pitched the four-hit shutout to improve to 10-7 on the year. She gave up one walk and fanned seven.
Peters batted two-for-five in the game with an RBI. Boyd stroked a perfect two-for-two with the run scored. She is .400 in C-USA action this season, hitting 14-for-35 in 15 games.
Jessica Rak (17-9) pitched her third game for the Cardinals this weekend. She went the distance, 9.2 innings, giving up the unearned run with seven hits and one walk and striking out four.
Kenzi Meisenburg claimed a triple, and Sara Bausher finished with a double for Louisville. The Cardinals had runners in scoring position on three occasions, and two with less than two outs.
With one out in the top of the sixth, Meisenburg cracked her triple, but Bausher grounded out to third, and Keola Calderon filed out to leftfield. In the seventh, Melissa Jacobo singled to right field and was replaced by pinch runner Kristi Rozelle. Rozelle advanced to second on Nicole Sparks' sacrifice bunt and went to third on a wild pitch. The Lady Eagles held the game scoreless, when Peters caught Jodi Thomas? pop-up.
Southern Miss had an opportunity to score in the fourth. Peters led off with a double to right center, and Erinne Milligan came in to pinch run for Peters. Tammy Edwards came up and bunted Milligan to third. With one out, Channika Gant hit a slow grounder to the shortstop, but Milligan remained at third. Laura Smith finished the inning with a pop-up to second base.
With one out in the bottom of the 10th, Diane Hammes reached on a fielding error by third basemen Jacobo. Boyd advanced on a walk, moving Hammes to second.
Kristie Martin put down a slow bunt to reach first and load the bases. Amanda Brown reached on a fielder?s choice, as Meisenburg threw out Hammes at home. Peters followed with her game-winner liner to win the game.
Southern Miss improves to 22-21 on the year and still holds second place in C-USA with an 11-4 league record. Louisville drops to 19-19 overall and 6-4 in the conference.
The Lady Eagles travel to Alabama for a single game on Wednesday, April 10, at 5:30 p.m.
