Bower Not Happy With Wednesday Practice
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Southern Miss' Wednesday "fundamental" practice did not draw rave reviews from Head Coach Jeff Bower, who said his Golden Eagles lost some enthusiasm late in the workout, and that the last half of the practice "went downhill."
"We had a decent day, but made too many mistakes," said Bower. "We've got to learn to push through the whole practice with great effort and great concentration, and we didn't do that today. We didn't put much new in today, but spent most of the time teaching fundamentals, brushing up on mistakes from Tuesday's workout and getting ready for Thursday's scrimmage."
While the quarterback situation continues to draw a lot of attention from Golden Eagle fans, Bower says no one has separated himself from the others. "They've all practiced well through the first two weeks, and we'll just continue working them, evaluating them, and grading them every day and see how they perform in the scrimmages."
Thursday's half-and-half (half fundamental and half scrimmage) workout will end the second week of spring work for the Golden Eagles who then will take a brief Easter holiday break. The annual Black & Gold spring game is set for April 13, and Southern Miss opens the 2002 season Aug. 31, at home, against intrastate rival Jackson State.
