Lady Eagle Tracksters Have Record-Breaking Weekend
In the running events, two long-standing Lady Eagle records fell during the compeition at the Alabama Relays. Keri White eighth in the 10,000 meters, but broke a nine-year old record when she posted a time of 39:04.69, bettering the record by 12 seconds. Janet Rono broke the 1,500-meter record with a time of 4:35.69, breaking the old record by four seconds and finishing second. Tamara Dayes continued her assault on the field event records, breaking her own record in the hammer with a toss of 155'4", she set last season. On the day, Dayes posted a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 44'9" and a fifth-place finish in the discus with a throw of 142'11".
Other Lady Eagles with outstanding performances, included Prudence Reid, who posted a time of 24.30 in the 200 meters, taking seventh place out of 76 runners. Jessica Crump posted a time of 2:15.62 in the 800 meters for 13th place and Oby Amadi had a time of 2:18.35 for 25th. Kate Juedes took fourth in the high jump with a jump of 5'7", a season-best. Sabrina Norwood finished tied for seventh with a jump of 5'5". Emilie Taylor finished second in the javelin with a throw of 126'10", a season-best.
In the relays, the Lady Eagles finished seventh in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 46.92, and took third in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:38.15.
Southern Miss will compete in the Tulane Invitational, April 6.
