STARKVILLE, Miss. ? The Southern Miss softball team defeated Mississippi State, 7-2, in the Lady Eagles? third game of the Bulldog Classic. USM outhit the Bulldogs 15-8.

Five Lady Eagles recorded multi-hit performances with Kenya Peters hitting a perfect three-for-three. Heater Bell added her second home run of the season, starting off the scoring in the second inning, and Tammy Edwards smashed a homer in the sixth.

Jessica Holaway went the distance on the mound, giving up two runs on eight hits. She gave up only one walk and struck out nine.

Southern Miss (3-2) follows the win with a contest against Colorado State. Mississippi State falls to 8-2.
