Southern Miss Postgame Notes ? Louisville Game
? Tonight?s overtime game marked only the third time in school history that the Golden Eagles competed in an extra-period game. The last time Southern Miss took part in an overtime game, the Eagles defeated UAB 33-30 on Nov. 11, 2000. The Golden Eagles are now 1-2 all-time in overtime games.
? Quarterback Micky D?Angelo threw for 228 yards and two touchdowns on 17-of-35 passing and had one interception in the loss. D?Angelo?s totals are his second-best outing of the season and marked the third time this season that a Southern Miss quarterback threw for more than 200 yards.
? Sophomore receiver Chris Johnson caught eight passes for 141 yards and one touchdown which was the highest yardage output for a Southern Miss receiver this season. The mark also was Johnson?s career best and the first time he had more than 100 yards receiving.
? D?Angelo?s two touchdown passes also marked the first time this season that the Golden Eagles had two touchdown passes in one game. Southern Miss hadn?t thrown two touchdown passes in one game since the Alabama game on Nov. 29, 2001.
? Senior running back Derrick Nix gained 96 yards on 25 carries in the game, bringing his season total to 965 yards. Nix needs just 35 yards to reach the 1,000-yard plateau which he hasn?t done since 1999. Nix now has 3,355 yards for his career. He needs just 241 yards in the next two games to surpass Ben Garry (1974-77) for No. 1 on the all-time school list. Nix?s career rushing attempts increased to 717 good enough for third on the all-time list. He needs seven carries to move ahead of Garry for second place on the school?s career list and 30 carries to gain the top spot ahead of Sammy Winder (1978-81).
? Sophomore receiver Marvin Young caught five passes for 63 yards, but failed to catch a touchdown pass for the first time in four games. Young now has a team-high 508 yards receiving and six touchdown grabs.
? Sophomore defensive back Antoine Cash tied a season and career-high with 11 tackles (9 solos and 2 assists) in the contest. He also had 11 tackles in the win over Cincinnati.
? Junior linebacker Rod Davis finished with 10 overall tackles in the game, with five solos and five assists. The double-digit total marked the 10th game this season he has reached that mark, as well as 13th time in his last 14 games.
