Cross Country Runs At Auburn Invitational
Hattiesburg, Miss. - The Southern Miss Cross Country team was 17th out of 30 teams, today, at the Auburn University Invitational, held at Indian Pines Golf Course in Auburn, Ala. Virginia Tech won the event, with fifth, ninth, 13th, 17th, 20th, 47th and 63rd place finishes.
South Florida finished fifth, Tulane was 18th, Ole Miss 20th and UAB 21st. Kathy Newbury, an unattached runner, won the event, running the 5K race in 16:35.51. Katie Griffin, from Georgia Tech, finished second with a time of 16:53.56.
Southern Miss' Jessica Crump, 18:47.91, finished 70th to lead the Golden Eagles, and Keri White ran the race in 18:50.04 for 73rd place. Lydiah Chepkwony ran the event in 19:50.65 (120th), Tomeka Shaffer finished 132nd (20:12.31) and Alisha Edwards ran the race in 20:29.93 (141st) to round out USM's top five.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Nov. 2, when they host the Conference USA Championships at Van Hook Golf Course in Hattiesburg.
