Real Winners Read
Hattiesburg, Miss. -The Student Academic Enhancement Program (SAEP) at The University of Southern Mississippi, in conjunction with its CHAMPS/Life Skills program, will sponsor the third annual Real Winners Read campaign at the Oct. 19, Southern Miss-Cincinnati homecoming game.
The service project is designed to collect children's books that then are divided and shared with schools and children's organizations throughout the state, and Golden Eagle fans are asked to help promote the effort by bringing children's books to the game.
Student-athletes from various sports will be at each gate to collect the books. In the first two years of the program, the Real Winners Read campaign collected and distributed over 2,000 children's books.
The involvement of Southern Miss student-athletes in the promotion of literacy development is vital to the success of children in our area. Golden Eagle student-athletes are committed to service and consistently involve themselves in a variety of activities throughout the community, promoting literacy development.
Fans are reminded that the homecoming game with Cincinnati has been moved from a 2 p.m., start to a 1 p.m., start because of ongoing renovations to the lighting system in Roberts Stadium. Many of the activities that will be held in conjunction with homecoming will be adjusted accordingly, including Eagle Walk starting at 11 a.m., instead of noon.
