on ESPN's SportsCentury Series on Jan. 23
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Former Southern Miss great, quarterback Brett Favre, will be featured on ESPN's SportsCentury series airing on Wed., Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m., CT, and then will be re-aired on ESPN Classic on Monday, Jan. 28 at 6:30 p.m.
The program will profile the life and career of Favre, the only three-time NFL MVP, from his college days at Southern Miss to his current career with the Green Bay Packers. He currently holds the NFL record for throwing at least 30 touchdown passes for the past six seasons and has 157 consecutive starts.
Favre is one of four Golden Eagle football greats to have his jersey retired. The Southern Miss quarterback played during the 1987 through 1990 seasons, Favre led the Golden Eagles to two bowl games and set several school passing records. He owns records for yards passing in a career (7,695), most completions in a season (206), most completions in a career (613), most passing attempts in a season (381), most passing attempts in a career (1,169), most career passing touchdowns (52), most plays of total offense in a season (424), most plays of total offense in a career (1,362), most yards of total offense in a season (2,563), most yards of total offense in a career (7,606) and most touchdowns in total offense in a career (53).
In 1990, Favre was chosen to play in the Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Bowl. Favre gained a spot as one of two quarterbacks on the Southern Miss All-Century Team. He was selected in the 1991 NFL draft by the Atlanta Falcons, before joining his current team, the Green Bay Packers, in 1992. In his career, he has led the Packers to three NFC championship appearances, two NFC titles, and one Super Bowl victory. He also earned three NFL Most Valuable Player Awards (1995-96-97).
