Eagles Host UAB, Try To Snap Losing Skid
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Southern Miss tries to snap a four-game losing streak when the Golden Eagles entertain a UAB team that comes in with an 8-7 record. The Blazers have won three of their last four games, most recently, a 63-54 victory over East Carolina.
The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m., start and will be televised by ESPN Plus. It also will be the first Conference USA game of the season for the Golden Eagles who opened league play with losses at Memphis and South Florida.
P.J. Arnold leads three Blazers who are averaging in double figures. He's at 14.1 points a game after 15 games, while teammates Morris Finley averages 12.5 points and Will Campbell 10.7. As a team, UAB averages 73.8 points a game and allows 65.5
Elvin Mims, who may return to action in the UAB game after a suspension (for an on-court violation of team rules) kept him out of the Memphis and South Florida games. The senior forward continues to lead the Golden Eagles in scoring at 18.1 points a game. Clement Carter is the only other Southern Miss player in double figures with an 11.8 average.
Thanks to the current four-game losing streak, USM's scoring average has dropped to 62.0 while the opposition now averages 65.4
Southern Miss and UAB have played 16 times prior to today's game, with the Blazers holding a 10-6 edge. UAB has won five of the last seven games, and the two teams split games last season, each winning on the road.
