Southern Miss Lady Eagles Finish Fourth At the Tulane Invitational
NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane University women?s cross country team won the 2001 Tulane Invitational at Levee Oaks Park Friday. The men?s race was won by Alabama, followed by the Green Wave. The Wave also had both individual winners. Sophomore Eva Lustigova (Liberec, Czech Republic) covered the two-mile course in 11:42.20 for the women, while senior Solomon Kandie (Nairobi, Kenya) completed the three-mile men?s race in 14:33.30.
The Tulane women won the event with 69 points, followed by Alabama (74 points), LSU (78), Southern Miss (80). The field was rounded out by New Orleans (137), Ole Miss (162), Jackson State (188), Xavier (197), Mobile (200), Loyola (228) and Southeastern (271).
Junior Jessica Crump was the Lady Eagles' top finisher, covering the course in 12:26.30 to finish seventh overall. Newcomer Rose Kurui (Kapsabet, Kenya) finished ninth with a time of 12:31.10, and Keri White finished 11th with a time of 12:33.80. Rounding out the Golden Eagle runners were Oby Amadi, (20th) with a time of 13:11.40, Karen Tankersley (33rd) with a time of 13:41.70, Tomeka Shaffer (39) with a time of 13:51.80, and Rebecca Richards (50) with a time of 14:31.80.
Southern Miss returns to action, Sept. 15, at the Alabama Invitational.
