Women's Cross Country Team Opens 2001 Season
The Southern Miss women?s cross country team opens the 2001 season at the Tulane Invitational. Coach Dena Dunn-Reif returns five of the top seven runners from a year ago.
Leading the returning letterwinners are Jessica Crump and Keri White. Crump and White were the top two finishers for the Lady Eagles last year. Also returning are seniors Oby Amadi and Jenny Combs. Tomeka Shaffer rounds out the returning letterwinners.
Reif welcomes six newcomers to the 2001 squad. Look for newcomers Rose Kurui and Janet Rono to push for the top spots on the team. Kurui and Rono comes to Southern Miss after outstanding careers at Central Arizona College. Other newcomers looking to break into the top seven spots are Rebecca Richards, Erica Scharfenstein, and Karen Tankersley.
Following the Tulane meet, Southern Miss competes in the Alabama Invitational, Sept. 15, and host its annual meet, Sept. 21.
