Preparations for UAB Are Over
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Southern Miss Head Coach Jeff Bower's Golden Eagles wrapped up preparations for Saturday's home game against UAB with what Bower termed a "solid" workout on Thursday.
He also says getting into conference play for the first time adds a new dimension to the day-to-day schedule. "I think everyone's excited," he said. "The conference games are the real games. They all mean a lot. When you get into conference play, it's a little more exciting, especially when you play a team that's as talented as the one we play this week.
"We are playing a really good football team. It should be a great test for us. We should find out how good we are since we have not played a team of this caliber yet this season. The average fan probably doesn't know just how good UAB really is.
"Unless you look at the tape, there's just no way they would know. If they did know, we'd have every seat already sold in Roberts Stadium."
Bower also says the week was a good one for those players who were working to rehab injuries. "We're in good shape in that regard, and should be healthier than we've been in a long time," said Bower.
The game will be telecast by Comcast/Charter Sports and is scheduled to start at 6:05 p.m., Saturday.
