Golden Eagles Continue Preparation for Conference Opener
Hattiesburg, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team continued its preparation for Saturday's Conference USA opener against UAB at M. M. Roberts Stadium at 6 p.m. The game will be televised by Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) and can be reached in 2.6 million homes throughout Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, North and South Carolina.
The Golden Eagles continue to work hard and prepare for a UAB team that some say could be the darkhorse in the league. Bower calls the Blazers the best team USM has played this year. "They are talented on defense, a very experienced team with 10 starters back from last year. The offense brings back the quarterback, the running back and good skill people. This is by far the best team we have played this year."
Bower also believes that both teams will be motivated and that this year's game will be much like last year's hard-fought, double-overtime contest in Birmingham. "Both teams will be motivated by the same things," Bower said. "UAB comes in with a lot of confidence and excitement about the game, but being a conference game, that adds more for both sides."
Bower also believes that all the injured players will be fine. "Woody (Dawanye Woods) and Corey (Yates) have both looked good," Bower said. "Kendrick (Key) is a little behind the other two, but he looks a lot better. I think he will be ready to play. We'll evaulate them throughout the week and then make the decision and put the best players on the field."
