Mansfield Named Golden Eagle Athletic Trainer
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Amos Mansfield, a Cincinnati, Ohio native and graduate of the University of Alabama, is the newest assistant athletics trainer for The University of Southern Mississippi athletics department.
He will assist Head Athletic Trainer Matt Smith with football, work with men's basketball as his primary sport and will handle training tasks for men's golf and men's tennis as well.
Also, Stephanie Rosehart has been promoted to associate athletic trainer, and Deborah Huff to coordinator of women's athletic training/rehab coordinator.
Mansfield, 27, attended Glen Este High School in Cincinnati, received his bachelor of science degree in athletic training from Alabama in 1996 and a master of business administration degree from Mercer University in 1999.
His work experience includes serving as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Mercer from 1996 to 1999; and, from 1999 until he came to Southern Miss, he was employed at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala., where he designed and implemented a sports medicine program for a start-up Division III football program, as well as for 11 sports programs already sponsored by Stillman.
Mansfield, who replaces Dustin Hill, who recently left Southern Miss to become head athletic trainer at North Texas, holds a variety of professional certifications and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, the Southeastern Athletic Trainers Association and the Alabama Athletic Trainers Association.
"I'm really impressed with both Southern Miss and Hattiesburg," Mansfield said. "The high regard in which the Southern Miss athletic program is held nationally and the quality of life offered by the Hattiesburg area are major reasons I'm here. I look forward to working with the staff and athletes this year and the years ahead. They'll find that I'm a firm believer that prevention is as important as treatment."
Mansfield is married to the former Anja Reese of Columbus, Ga., and his father, Doak, a retired minister, resides in Laurel, Miss.
The hiring is subject to formal approval by the Board of Trustees of the Institutions of High Learning.
