Newcomers Go Through First Day of Practice
Hattiesburg, Miss. - The Southern Miss football freshman and newcomers underwent their first day of two-a-day practices today at the USM Practice Field. They will undergo two more practices on Tuesday, at 8:15 a.m., and again at 3:30 p.m.
The varsity players report for preseason camp tomorrow afternoon. On Wednesday, the squad will undergo strength and conditioning tests before beginning official two-a-day practice on Thursday morning.
SOUTHERN MISS HEAD FOOTBALL COACH JEFF BOWER
On the first day of practice for the newcomers
It?s been a good day. They worked hard, and they are a good group. They tested well, some showed good speed. It?s a group that has a lot of personality, and that?s great to see. It?s kind of unusual for first-year guys. They are very enthusiastic and already know the fight song.
Where you can slot some of these guys
We worked a third of them on one side of the ball, both practices, and the other two-thirds we had them go both offense and defense. We?re going to meet tomorrow and try to get them slotted into positions.
Injuries
We already got one going to surgery, Travares Comegys. He?s got a torn meniscus, but it?s minor. He should just be out for a couple of weeks. We think he aggravated an old injury.
