HATTIESBURG, Miss.? More people than ever before will be able to follow the radio broadcasts of Southern Miss football this season on the Southern Miss ISP Sports Network. A large network of commercial radio stations, internet availability through SouthernMiss.com and telephone access through Teamline will make it easier than ever to follow the radio broadcasts of Golden Eagle football during the 2001 season.
Once again WXRR-FM in Hattiesburg-Laurel will serve as the flagship station for Southern Miss football. Rock 104 is a 100,000-watt station whose signal is one of the best and strongest in South Mississippi.
Veteran play-by-play announcer John Cox returns for his 24th season as part of the broadcast team, teaming with former Golden Eagle quarterback and Hall of Famer Vic Purvis. who is entering his 28th season with the broadcast crew. Lance Pittman will handle the sideline reports and locker room interviews for the fifth straight year, while Mike Moleta serves as engineer and on-site producer and Paul Batchelder serves as network statistician.
The broadcasts of Southern Miss football begin one hour prior to the opening kickoff with the Golden Eagle Tailgate Show and Southern Miss Game Day. The Golden Eagle Tailgate Show features ?The Inside Scoop?, a weekly interview with a Golden Eagle assistant coach who provides unique insight into Southern Miss and a scouting report on that?s week?s opponent, and The Conference USA Notebook, which updates listeners on the hottest topics around the league and scores from around the conference and the country.
Southern Miss Game Day helps you relive the proud tradition of Golden Eagle football with ?Great Moments in Southern Miss Football? and the pregame visit with Coach Jeff Bower.
Following the game, join the network for the Golden Eagle Postgame Report Presented By ERA Real Estate Professionals. Listeners can go inside the locker room for interviews with Golden Eagles coaches and players, along with Bower?s postgame assessments. Also included in the postgame show are updates of games played in college football that day, a recap of the stats and a preview of upcoming games.
