Golden Eagles Will Scrimmage Wednesday
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Inability of players to work their way through high-heat workouts was a source of concern for Head Coach Jeff Bower and his staff as the Southern Miss Golden Eagles continued two-a-day workouts on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles spent much of Tuesday's workouts working on fundamentals, and ended the afternoon session with two teamwork periods that did please Bower. "I thought they competed pretty well during those periods," he said. "But, we need to be more consistent and improve our concentration. We're just a little bit too much up-and-down, right now, and when that's the case you don't execute as well as you need to.
"We've also got to push through the heat better than we did on Monday and today. We had some pretty good heat both days, and we've got to push through it better than we showed either day. We've got to be mentally tougher."
Southern Miss will work twice Wednesday, and will use the second half of the afternoon session for scrimmage work in M. M. Roberts Stadium.
The Golden Eagles wrap up two-a-day workouts this week, start classes Monday and cut back to single workouts as they continue to prepare for a Sept. 1 season-opener against at home against Oklahoma State.
