Southern Miss Invitational Meet Results
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss track and field teams opened the 2001 outdoor season today, in the Southern Miss Invitational at the Southern Miss Track and Field and Soccer Complex in Hattiesburg.
On the women's side, Southern Miss had several performers who had top performances in the field and running events. Tamara Dayes was a triple-winner, posting wins in the shot put (44'11"), discus (144'7"), and hammer throw (133'2"). Hope Sinclair finished first in the high jump at 5'5.75" with Sabrina Norwood finishing third (5'3.75"). Sandra Allen took first in the long jump at 19'4.25", Nikki Montgomery was sixth with a jump of 18'5" and Sinclair was seventh with a jump of 18'1.50". Anna Askew finished third in the discus with a toss of 127'00". Kelly Tribble finished second in the pole vault with a vault of 10'00". Prudence Reid finished sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 12.38 and Yolanda Johnson finished eighth with a time of 12.43. Jessica Crump finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.18. Keri White finished fourth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:50.09 and Ayanna Buchanan finished fifth in the 100-meter low hurdles with a time of 14.82. The 4x100-meter relay team finished sixth (47.78), and the 4x400-meter relay team finished second with a time of 3:54.81.
On the men's side, Wenston Riley finished sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.86. Stevenson McKinney finished sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.12. Riley also took first in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 14.03. George Daley finished third in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 53.75. The 4x100-meter relay team finished fifth with a time of 41.61 and the 4x400-meter relay team finished fourth with a time of 3:18.67. Cedric Norman finished second in the high jump with a jump of 6'9.75" and followed up with a second place finish in the long jump with a leap of 24'3.75". Dywon Pullins finished second in the triple jump with a jump of 49'0.75". Bryan Bruner placed third in the shot put with a toss of 52'6.50" and fourth in the discus with a throw of 143'11". Casey McGehee finished seventh in the discus with a throw of 133'11".
Southern Miss will travel to the Alabama Relays, Mar. 24-25.
