Tulane Preps Going Well
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Southern Miss put in what Head Coach Jeff Bower called a second-straight "really good day," on Tuesday, as his Golden Eagles continued to prepare for Saturday's 2 p.m., home game against C-USA rival Tulane.
Bower says that while there's no real sense of urgency, his players know where they stand. "They know what the situation is, they know you have to have six wins to qualify for a bowl, they know what our record is, and they know they have to get ready to play every single week. They're doing that, and the past couple of days may have been the best back-to-back days we've had this season.
"Personally, I'm just glad to play four games in a row. We've had so many unusual situations this season, and it has made it really hard to get in any kind of rhythm. We know that's something you just have to work with, and I think we've done a good job with that, as coaches and as players. We will have a couple of short-week games coming up, but I've always enjoyed the short weeks, personally. I think that as long as the season has been, the players probably want to play quickly, too.
"The short week does limit, somewhat, what you can get into a game plan, but that just means we have to do things a lot quicker, and probably be a lot simpler. Alabama will have had two weeks to get ready for us, East Carolina will have two days more than we do to get ready, but, for us, we'll just have to scale things back a little bit."
While the game will be only the eighth of the season for the Eagles, Tulane comes in having already played 11 games, including one of the preseason games. In an unusual situation, Southern Miss' final four opponents will end their seasons against the Eagles. And while the Tulane game won't be televised, the remaining three games, all non-Saturday games, will be televised.
Tickets to the Tulane game, as well as the remaining home game against TCU, remain on sale at the athletic ticket office located in the Ferlise Center on the Southern Miss campus, or by calling 601/266-5418 or 1-800-844-TICK.
