Inside the Huddle - Kendrick Key
Kendrick Key is a senior starter at the weak-side guard position for the Golden Eagles this season ... He transferred to Southern Miss in 1999 from Northwest Mississippi Community College ... After redshirting his first year at USM, Key worked his way up the depth chart last season and started the last four games of the season ... He has given SouthernMiss.com a few mintues of his time after practice to answer a few questions to give the fans some insight.
Q - Can you give me your thoughts on your senior season and how things have gone so far?
A - It has been disappointing. It hasn?t been as good as we really wanted it to be, but our guys have been playing hard and working hard to try and finish up on a positive note. That is about all you can ask out of anyone.
Q - Do you do anything in particular during game week to get yourself ready to play?
A - I basically just stay in my normal routine. I try to study some extra film and just try to do everything that I usually do during the week. I don?t like trying to do anything different.
Q - Is there a ritual you go through the day of a game?
A - I just sit around and relax. I watch some TV or listen to the radio.
Q - What do you like watching on TV?
A - I like watching a couple of movies. Movies like Scarface or something like that.
Q - Really. So, you a big Al Pacino fan?
A - Yeah. I like gangster movies.
Q -Any particular reason why you watch those movies?
A - It gets me in a reckless mindset ? ready to go all out and take it to the field.
Q - What kind of music do you like listening to?
A - I listen to a lot of Eight Ball ? a lot of music out of the Memphis area. I like the older music like the classic music. I like Bobby Womack and music that like.
Q - Out of all the coaches on the Southern Miss staff, who would be more likely to listen to music like Eight Ball or music like that?
A - Probably someone like Coach (Tyrone) Nix or Coach (Lytrell) Pollard. They are just a little younger.
Q - Talk about the your eight cut blocks that you had against Penn State.
A - It is a competition among the guys on the O-line to see who can get the most cuts in the game and in the season. It is just something we work for. It is for bragging rights among the offensive linemen.
Q - Do you think anyone is going to match that?
A - No chance.
Q - Can you describe the feeling when you come out to "The Rock" on game days?
A - It is a feeling that you really can?t explain. It is like your whole body is just tingling. It is indescribable feeling.
Q - Is that something that you are going to miss?
A - That is something you will cherish for the rest of your life. It is something to look back on.
Q - What has your experience at Southern Miss done for you?
A - My experience here brought me closer to people. Some of the friends I made here have become closer than brothers to me. I have met a lot of great people that will be a part of me for the rest of my life.
