Eagles Headed To Memphis
Hattiesburg, Miss. - On Thursday, Southern Miss wrapped up preparations for Saturday's game at Memphis where the Golden Eagles will go against the Tigers in a 7 p.m., game in Liberty Bowl Stadium. The game will be the 52nd meeting between the two schools.
Head Coach Jeff Bower's team spent Thursday's workout polishing a "simplified" game plan, as the Eagles look for ways to generate more offense. The team will bus to Memphis Friday and work out at the Liberty Bowl Friday afternoon.
"I thought we were pretty simple for last week's game, and I don't know how we can get much simpler than we are," Bower said. "I thought we executed pretty well in practice last week prior to the UAB game, but we just didn't carry it over into the game.
"We spent a lot of time working on repetition this week, and I hope we'll execute better this week. I think we will."
Bower also says the game against Memphis holds special meaning for his team. "Our players have a lot of respect for their program and know that they have to get themselves ready every time we play them," said Bower. "I guess we've played good enough against them. Last year's game was a lot closer than the score indicated. This is definitely not a game our players look past.
"It's always fun to play in the Liberty Bowl. We've had some success there, and I hope this will not be our only trip there this season."
Following the Memphis game, the Eagles will not play Oct. 13, before playing at Louisville in an unusual Tuesday night (Oct. 16) game.
