Bower Likes Penn State Preparations
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Southern Miss continued preparation for Saturday's game at Penn State, on Tuesday, and Head Coach Jeff Bower says he's pleased with the way the team has worked.
"We had a good week of work last week and that carried over into the Houston game," Bower said. "We keep harping on that subject. It's probably the most important thing you can do as a player, having good practices. We talk about it every day, about doing all the little things that help, working hard every day, study some extra tape, and doing all the little things right.
"I think we've carried that over into this week. We had a good day today, and I'm confident we'll finish the week the same way."
Bower also says the unusual situation this season has presented also may have made it hard to maintain the practice concentration a team needs. "It has been unusual in that regard," he said. "You feel like you're getting into some kind of rhythm, and then something changes. But you just have to handle it, we as coaches have to handle it, the players have to handle it; it's just part of the game. You don't make any excuses for it."
Bower also announced that three players who missed the Houston game for an unspecified violation of team rules, running back Tim Blackwell, wide receiver Kenneth Johnson and offensive lineman Brock Anderson, have been suspended for the Penn State game and that their situation will be re-evaluated following the Nov. 3 game. All three players worked with the scout team on Tuesday.
