Eagles Schedule Saturday Morning Practice
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Southern Miss worked through light rain Friday as the team continued to prepare for Tuesday night's Conference USA game at Louisville.
The Golden Eagles are scheduled for a 10 a.m., Saturday workout and will end fullscale preparation with a 4 p.m., Sunday workout.
Several players continue to be hampered with various injuries, including wide receiver Dannye Fowler, offensive lineman Torrin Tucker and defensive back Seth Cumbie. Defensive back Corey Yates continues to recuperate from knee surgery he underwent last week.
Head Coach Jeff Bower also says his players have no trouble getting ready for Louisville. "This is an important game for us," he said. "We've won the league three times, they've won it once, and our game with them has always been a good one. We have a lot of respect for them and the kind of football team they have and our players look at Louisville on the schedule and know that they have to get ready to play really well. It's a game our players always look forward to."
Bower also announced Friday that linebacker Joe Scott (freshman/Hattiesburg, Miss.) has left the team. "We tried to do everything we could to help him," said Bower. "Certainly he was given a good opportunity to make things work out, and I'm sorry that it didn't work out for him."
Following the weekend workouts, the team will hold a brief walk-through Monday, fly charter from Hattiesburg early afternoon, and meet the Cardinals at 7 p.m., Oct. 16.
