21st Annual Southern Miss Cross Country Invitational Results
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The University of Southern Mississippi women's cross country team won its second consecutive meet of the season by winning the 21st Annual
Southern Miss Cross Country Invitational, Friday evening, at the B. O. Van Hook Golf Course in Hattiesburg.
The Lady Eagles finished with 48 points ahead of Louisiana-Monroe with 54 followed by Southeastern Louisiana (3rd) 71 points, Ole Miss (4th) 77 points and Jackson State
(5th) 81 points to round out the Division I schools. Spring Hill College finished first among the Division II schools, edging out University of Mobile 27-30.
Southern Miss' Jessica Crump took the individual honors and covered the 5K course in 18:46 seven seconds ahead of Amleset Kidane of Southeastern Louisiana. Keri White
finished third overall with a time of 18:59. Mobile's Julie London was the top finisher in the DII schools with a time of 19:52.
Ole Miss took the men's team honors with 37 points followed by Southeastern Louisiana (2nd) 40 points, Louisiana-Monroe (3rd) with 66 points, Jackson State (4th) with 91
points, New Orleans (5th) with 137 points and Mississippi Valley State (6th) with 144 points. Hinds Community College took Division II team honors with 18 points followed by
Spring Hill College (2nd) with 43 points, University of Mobile (3rd) with 77 points and Itawamba Community College (4th) with 97 points.
Michael Sang of Southeastern Louisiana was the top individual winner and covered the 8K course in 25:30 followed by Ole Miss' Chad Dixon with a time of 26:03 and Matt
Carter with a time of 26:20.
Other Southern Miss women finishes included Oby Amadi (10th) with a time of 20:22, Hope Sinclair (15th) with a time of 20:54, Tomeka Shaffer (19th) with a time of 21:41,
Jenny Combs (21st) with a time of 23:18 and Lena Gates (28th) 24:54.
Southern Miss will compete in the University of Memphis meet, Oct. 14.
