WAYS TO INVEST
INDIVIDUAL SPORTS
Donors may direct their support to any Southern Miss varsity sport. These gifts allow coaches the additional budget flexibility to accelerate our growth on the fields and courts of play.
ENDOWMENTS
Endowment giving establishes a permanent and stabilized financial base. They allow scholarships and programs to live in perpetuity, providing a living legacy of education. Donors may designate the endowment for a particular sport or program, or allow the Athletics department to make the award in the area of greatest need. Endowments are essential in providing funding for current and future Southern Miss student-athletes. The opportunity to endow a scholarship with the Golden Eagles exists beginning at $25,000 over 5 years. Endowments can be established with cash gifts, securities or other property and may be funded over time. The Eagle Club office will provide the appropriate agreements to complete the gift. For more information on endowments, please contact the Eagle Club office at (601) 266-5299.
CAPITAL PROJECTS
Capital giving helps build the physical infrastructure needed for successful training and competition of our Student-Athletes. For Southern Miss Athletics to be competitive, facility upgrades and maintenance are critical.
ESTATE AND PLANNED GIFTS
Several options exist for donors to make gifts to Southern Miss Athletics outside of cash donations. These gifts are classified under planned giving and are typically made from assets in your estate, rather than disposable income. These options include: gifts of appreciated property, charitable remainder trust, bequests/living trusts, retained life estate, IRA, retirement assets, charitable gift annuity, life income gifts, etc. For more information on planned giving, please contact the Eagle Club office at (601) 266-5299.
SOUTHERN MISS EMPLOYEES
Southern Miss employees are able to contribute their annual gifts through a monthly payroll deduction. All current Southern Miss employees will be credited 2:1 for every dollar donated to the Eagle Club Scholarship Fund. For example, a Southern Miss employee who donates $250 a year to the Eagle Club will receive the benefits of a $500 member.
GIFT IN KIND
A gift-in-kind is a contribution of tangible property such as products, services, equipment or merchandise in place of a cash donation to the Eagle Club. These gifts provide budgetary relief for the athletic department while providing tax relief and other benefits for donors including priority to purchase season tickets and parking. All gift-in-kind pledges must be approved by the Eagle Club staff before qualifying for priority benefits. For more information, please contact the Eagle Club office at (601) 266-5299.
MARKETBALE SECURITIES
Gifts of marketable securities may be an attractive option for donors who have appreciated stock. Donors may be able to claim the market value of the security as a charitable contribution and avoid paying taxes on capital gains. It is teh Athletic Foundation's policy to liquidate securities as quickly as possible upon receipt of a gift of marketable securities. The proceeds, net of gains or losses realized by the sale, brokerage fees and any income generated during the holding period, are deposited as directed by the donor.
