Pair of Football Players Expected to Compete in Hula Bowl Saturday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss quarterback Braylon Braxton (Frisco, Texas) and defensive back Josh Moten (Waldorf, Md.) will participate in the 80th Hula Bowl set for Saturday, Jan. 10, in DeLand, Fla.
Game time is set for 11 a.m. CT from Spec Martin Memorial Stadium and will be shown nationally via the CBS Sports Network.
Braxton, an All-Sun Belt Conference honorable mention selection, started and played in 12 games, throwing for 3,054 yards on 254-of-400 attempts (63.5%) with 24 touchdown passes and only eight interceptions. Braxton threw at least one touchdown pass in all 12 games, and his touchdown pass total was the most by a Golden Eagle QB since Nick Mullens threw that total in 2016. Braxton opened the season by throwing multi-TD passes in six consecutive games, tying a school record (Mullens, 2015).
In his only year with the program, Braxton led the Sun Belt in TD passes while also directing the No. 1 passing offence in the SBC. He ranked No. 2 in the league in passing yards per game (254.5), along with being No. 4 in total offense (272.4) and No. 5 in passing efficiency (143.4).
Moten garnered first-team All-Sun Belt honors as well as earning a Hero G5 First-Team All-American accolade. He started all 13 games at field corner and tied for second in the Sun Belt lead with five interceptions, which also ranks No. 7 nationally…His interception per game total ranks No. 17 in the FBS.
Three of his interceptions came at Arkansas State, where the Golden Eagles captured a road victory and earned him Sun Belt Defensive POW honors. Moten ended the season with 59 tackles (38 solo) with 11 pass breakups. He ranks tied for No. 1 in the SBC and No. 7 in NCAA in passes defended with at 1.23 per game. He notched a season-high 10 stops versus Mississippi State and had at least six stops five times during the year.
