
Men’s Golf Sits in Third Place after Opening Day at All-American Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Three Southern Miss men's golfers shot under par through a pair of rounds at the All-American Intercollegiate Monday in Humble, Texas, to put the Golden Eagles in third place in the 16-team field.
Being played at par 72, 7,422-yard Tournament Course at the Golf Club of Houston, the trio of senior Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.). sophomore Benjamin Fernandez (Asuncion, Paraguay) and junior Will Burnham (Jackson, Miss.) all sit within one stroke of each other after two circuits of play.
Dupuy shot rounds of 69 and 72 for a three-under 141 to hold an eighth-place tie. Dupuy's 69 was the lowest round of the day for the Golden Eagles.
Fernandez added a two-round total of 142 and ranks tied for 11th after posting a 70 and 72, while Burnham totaled a 143 after shooting a 72 and 71 for a 13th-place tie.
Freshman Matthew Javier holds a 36th-place tie after shooting rounds of 70 and 77 for a 147, while sophomore Supakorn Amornchaichan (Pattaya City, Thailand) rounded out the Golden Eagle scorers with a 44th-place tie with a 73 and a 75 for a 148-stroke total.
Host Houston leads in the team standings with a 21-under 555, followed by Troy at 565 and Southern Miss at 571. The Golden Eagles collected a five-under for the day with rounds of 281 and 290.
Two Golden Eagles, playing as individuals and who are competing at the Members Course in a separate event, included Walker Wise, who fired rounds of 77 and 76 for a 153, and Tommy Latter who added a 77 and 83 for 160.
The final 18 holes takes place with an 8 a.m., shotgun start Tuesday.
