HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Athletics' Marketing and Creative Departments each received awards at the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators' (NACMA) and College Sports Communicators' (CSC) national conventions earlier this summer.
"Thank you to NACMA and CSC for recognizing the work of our incredibly talented external team," said Brad Smith, Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Operations. "These awards demonstrate a true team effort and our creative approach to setting up Southern Miss as an innovative leader in collegiate athletics.
Southern Miss Marketing brought home bronze in NACMA's quick sales campaign category for their execution of the "In-Laws Special" campaign. The department capitalized on the early success of Southern Miss' men's and women's basketball teams with reduced ticket costs for the Lady Eagles Nov. 26 game against Lamar and the Golden Eagles' Nov. 27 game against Mobile.
Southern Miss' bronze sat behind Virginia Tech (gold) and Kansas (silver). The category's entries were judged based on creativity, revenue generated and social media analytics.
"I'm thankful to NACMA for recognizing the whole Southern Miss External Department on achieving this award," said Damien Duff, Director of Marketing at Southern Miss. "It takes a total team effort to pull off a flash sale like this one on such short notice. Our staff was able to capitalize off of built-up momentum to get more fans supporting our student athletes."
Elsewhere in the Athletics Department, Creative Content graduate assistant Ross White earned three top-ten finishes, including one blue ribbon, in CSC's Creative & Digital Design Contest.
White placed fourth in GIFs/Motion Graphics – University Division with his women's basketball starting lineup graphic. He also finished seventh in the Spring Statistical Milestone Graphic – University Division for his "Walk It Like I Talk It" graphic honoring Southern Miss softball's Maria Smith.
Not to be outdone, White also claimed the top spot in the Spring Statistical Milestone Graphic – University Division for "The Morgan Leinstock Guide to Pitching" 300 strikeouts graphic.
"One of the main goals within my role at Southern Miss athletics is to elevate the brand and ultimately put Southern Miss on the map," said White "To be recognized nationally for a job I love has been nothing short of humbling. It truly makes the hard work that the creative department and I put in each day worth it."
