Cameron Clarke Receives NCAA Tournament Individual Berth

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss men's golfer Cameron Clarke, a graduate transfer from Pittsboro, Miss., earned a spot as an individual in the 2023 NCAA Golf Championship Wednesday afternoon.
Clark will compete at the Auburn Regional set at the Auburn University Club, May 15-17.
Clarke, in his one season with the Golden Eagles, earned first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors and voted as the league's Newcomer of the Year.
His season stroke average of 71.09 is on pace to be the lowest for a season in school history. His low round for the year was 64 as he posted a total of nine of 33 rounds in the 60s during the year. He ended the year with 21 rounds of par or below. He currently ranks No. 6 among Golfstat's Head-to-Head Rankings for Sun Belt Conference players.
Clarke participated in all 11 tournaments for the Golden Eagles in 2022-23 and enjoyed a team-high six Top 10 finishes - accounting for half the team's Top 10 showings during the year - including a pair of Top 5 showings during the year. His top finish was a 3rd-place tie at the Tiger Invitational by Jason Dufner (Opelika, Ala.) in which he shot a 208 (69-70-69) as well as a fourth-place tie at the Old Town Collegiate (Winston-Salem, N.C.) with a 205 (64-67-74).
Clarke is the fifth Golden Eagle individual to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The other four include V.J. Trolio (1998), Tim Yelverton (2002), Paul Apyan (2010) and Derek Plucienski (2011).
