HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss junior right-handed pitcher Tanner Hall (Zachary, La.) highlighted three Golden Eagles to make the Sun Belt Conference postseason awards Monday award.
Hall, who also earned first-team honors, was joined on the first team with junior shortstop Dustin Dickerson (Laurel, Miss.), while Golden Eagle senior third baseman Danny Lynch (Jupiter, Fla.) collecting a second-team nod. It is the second-straight season that Hall garnered his league's top pitching honor, also winning the C-USA award last year.
Hall, the three-time Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week, was the only starter in the league to win nine of his 10 starts in league play, while the next best had seven. He reached 100 strikeouts for the second consecutive season and his 11 wins ranks tied for second nationally, after winning his last four starts and eight of his last nine.
During the year, Hall registered a career-high 15 strikeouts against Arkansas State and enjoyed double-figure strikeout totals four times during the season. He went five innings in all but one start during the year, including seven or better in each of his last four starts. He threw a complete game victory over Troy for the team's only complete game of the year.
His season win total ranks tied for second on the school career charts, while he holds sixth place in career strikeouts with 278, leaping over Walker Powell (275), Nick Sandlin (268), Frankie McLendon (267) and Ray Guy (266).
Dickerson had a string of 169 straight starts at shortstop snapped midway through the season but has started in every other game of his Golden Eagle career. He leads the team lead in batting average among qualified players with a .321 batting average to go along with a team-best 18 doubles, two triples and four home runs. He only had two home runs in his career to start the year.
His career doubles total is 57 and ranks for a four-way tie for third on the school charts. He enjoyed a season team-best 17-game hitting streak during the season and tied for the team high with 21 multi-hit games (18-2H, 2-3H, 1-4H) while adding eight multi-RBI games.
Lynch was one of two players for the Golden Eagles to start every game, making them all at third base. Following the Louisiana series to end the regular season, he has played in 255 career games, which ranks second on the school career chart. He also ranks sixth in career at bats (896) and tied for fifth in walks (131) during his Golden Eagle tenure.
Lynch, known for his clutch hitting, compiled 24 of his 45 RBI during the year coming after two were out and accumulated eight go-ahead RBI in 2023. He finished second on the team in multi-RBI games with 12 (8-2RBI 2-3RBI, 1-4RBI, 1-8RBI).
He collected 10 homers during the regular, which is the second time in his career he has accumulated double-digit long balls, including establishing a school record with two grand slams and tied another record with eight RBI in the contest against Louisiana in his final regular season game at Pete Taylor Park. Lynch also made only two errors in the field over the final 19 games.
