HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss men's basketball coach Jay Ladner released Thursday the Golden Eagles' non-conference slate for the 2022-23 season.
Following an exhibition against Delta State on Nov. 1, Southern Miss will play 13 non-conference games between Nov. 7 and Dec. 21. Two of those games will be in Cancun, Mexico at the Cancun Challenge. It's the third time Southern Miss has traveled to Cancun for an MTE and the first since the 2010-11 season.
The Golden Eagles start the regular season with William Carey on Nov. 7. It will be the fifth-straight season the Crusaders make the short drive to Reed Green Coliseum.Â
Southern Miss then heads to Vanderbilt for its first road tilt of the season on Nov. 11. It will be the third time in program history the two teams have met and the first since 2010. From Nashville, Southern Miss returns home to tangle with Loyola New Orleans on Nov. 14. The Wolfpack make the trip to Hattiesburg as the reigning NAIA National Champions.Â
Thanksgiving vacation starts early for the Golden Eagles as they travel to Liberty on Nov. 14 to kick off the Cancun Challenge with the highly anticipated stateside game in Lynchburg, Va. They then head to Mexico to play Winthrop on Nov. 22 and then will be either Eastern Michigan or Purdue Fort Wayne on Nov. 23.Â
After returning from Cancun, Southern Miss will host Mobile and Montana on Nov. 27 and Nov 29, respectively. Montana heads to the Hub City a year after Southern Miss traveled to Missoula, Mont. for the Zootown Classic that was hosted by the Grizzlies.Â
The December portion of the schedule opens at Northwestern State on Dec. 4 and continues Dec. 10 when Lamar heads to Reed Green Coliseum. Southern Miss and Lamar turn around three days later to meet in Beaumont, Texas on Dec. 13.Â
Southern Miss caps the non-conference schedule with McNeese in Hattiesburg on Dec. 18 and then travel to Las Vegas, Nevada on Dec. 21 to go head-to-head with UNLV.Â
The full schedule can be found here. A complete list of game times and television assignments for the season will be announced at a later date.Â
