HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss athletics and Southern Prohibition Brewing Company (SoPro) have joined forces on creating a special craft beer and Golden Eagle fans will get an opportunity to vote on a pair of choices for the new brew which will debut this fall during football season.
Â
The co-branded beer will be sold at Southern Miss athletic events as well as in the marketplace throughout the Pine Belt and will bear a vintage Golden Eagle logo.
Â
"USM makes Hattiesburg special," said SoPro CEO Emily Curry. "Being able to brew a beer with them and in honor of the school this town was formed around is really special to us. Most of our employees are students/alumni. We are brewing this beer for them too."
Â
The vote will be centered around two designs and names. The first choice consists of "To The Top" American lager, while the second option includes "Gold Rush" American lager.Â
Â
"I'm beyond excited to brew a beer with my school, and to be able to drink a beer made by my team at sporting events this fall," said Southern Miss alumnus and SoPro Taproom Manager Megan Wilkinson.
Â
Golden Eagle fans can choose between the two designs on the Southern Miss main athletics Twitter page (@USMGoldenEagles) beginning on June 30 and a winner will be picked on July 2nd.
Â
So, make sure you find the specific voting tweet at the Twitter account with votes to be counted via "retweeting" or by hitting the "like" buttons to determine your particular choice.
Â
This project continues an effort to continue to provide more avenues available for Southern Miss fans to better enjoy its athletic programs' sporting events.
Â
"As we continue to engage our community and elevate our fan experience, we are very excited to partner with Southern Prohibition on this unique opportunity," said Brad Smith, Southern Miss Senior Associate AD for External Affairs. "The pandemic has forced us to become more creative in our revenue generation and we look forward to a successful collaboration with SoPro."
Â
The labels on the can will have different designs in the background highlighting Southern Miss athletics moments in history. SoPro is launching this beer community wide, so you can enjoy it at home, a local bar or restaurant, and at Southern Miss sporting events this fall. It will be available in 16-ounce cans and in 4-packs.
