HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss Deputy Director of Athletics Jeff Mitchell is among a group of 22 collegiate administrators selected to participate in the prestigious NCAA Pathway Program, as announced by the national office this week. Mitchell is one of 12 individuals representing the Division I cohort. The goal of the NCAA's most rigorous leadership development program is to prepare individuals for executive positions of directors of athletics or conference commissioners.Â
"The 2021-22 Pathway cohort represents a phenomenal group of administrators who have demonstrated impressive leadership capabilities and potential to flourish as college athletics' next wave of capable decision-makers," said DeeDee Merritt, Director of NCAA Leadership Development. "We are immensely excited to play a role in facilitating the professional journeys of our 22 cohort members."
Mitchell, who joined Southern Miss Athletics in August 2018, serves as the No. 2 administrator in the department and facilitates day-to-day operations for Golden Eagle athletics. Mitchell's sport oversight responsibilities include baseball, men's basketball, and football scheduling. Mitchell also is integrally involved in revenue generation efforts for the department and oversees legal affairs and multi-media rights matters. Â Â
Â
Program participants will engage with a diverse curriculum that features case study assignments, exploration of culture development, sessions led by higher education and athletics executives, and participation in a thorough mock interview process. The Pathway Program cohort begins its year long journey with an engaging stretch of programming and connection from June 21-30.
