HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will hold its annual "Let's SAAC Hunger" food drive from November 18-24.
All canned goods that are donated at Southern Miss will directly benefit our local community. Immediately after collections are complete, all items and cash donations will be given to the Eagles Nest Food Pantry on campus which provides resources for Southern Miss students and staff who are temporarily experiencing challenges accessing basic necessities, including food.
Southern Miss SAAC has partnered with Corner Market and will be collecting canned goods, non-perishable food items and cash donations at the Midtown Market location from Monday, Nov. 18 - Thursday, Nov. 21 from 3 – 7 p.m. Anyone making one of the above donations at Corner Market will receive a voucher for a buy one get one free ticket to the upcoming Southern Miss football game vs. Western Kentucky on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 2:30 p.m.
Canned goods will also be collected at the Reed Green Coliseum ticket office (located at the north entrance facing W. 4th Street) for the following basketball games next week. The coliseum ticket office will open one hour prior to tip off.
-Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m.: Lady Eagles vs. Ole Miss
-Sunday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m.: Southern Miss vs. William Carey
Those who donate two or more canned goods at the game will receive a voucher for a free general admission ticket to a future men's or women's basketball game of their choice.
Lastly, canned and non-perishable items will be accepted from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., weekdays from Nov. 18-22, in the Duff Athletic Center lobby and in the Pat Ferlise Ticket Office.
"The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is extremely excited to get this initiative started," said SAAC treasurer and Golden Eagle baseball player Alex Nelms. "This community shows our Southern Miss athletic teams endless love and support, so whenever we have an opportunity to give back, we try to make the most of it. Thank you in advance for your help, and Go Eagles!"
