EUGENE, Ore. - Sophomore Ke'Airra Jones concluded her collegiate outdoor season with a 12th-place finish in the high jump at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field.
Jones finished 12th with a mark of 1.76 meters (5-9.25), just missing out on scoring at the NCAA meet and earning All-American honors. Competing on a wet surface due to rains that delayed the start of the event, Jones cleared both the opening height of 1.72 meters (5-7.75) and the second height of 1.76 meters on her final attempts, but dropped out when the bar was moved to 1.80 meters (5-10.75). She missed out on the honor at the NCAA Indoor Championships earlier this year in the same event as she finished in a tie for 10th.
"It was disappointing to only have four jumpers jump higher than her and still not earn All-American honors," Head Coach Kevin Stephen said. "The conditions were terrible at the start of the event with torrential rain, but no excuses, we were prepared. She could have finished as high as fifth but she cleared all her bars on the third attempt and was beaten out because of misses."
Competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championships continues Thursday with two Southern Miss athletes in action. Ashley May and Suesanna Williams will compete in the triple jump and hammer events, respectively.
