After Day Three, Golden Eagles are Seventh and Eighth Place

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Southern Miss track and field teams are in seventh (women) and eighth (men) place after the conclusion of day three at the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship Saturday.
Southern Miss started the day earning eight points from Kyle Smith in the javelin when he finished third with a throw of 222'1". Marcus Norwood scored eight points as he finished second in the high jump with a height of 6'10.75". Myreon Sartin placed fifth in the same event with a height of 6'8.75" to add another four points for the Eagles.
Rounding out the scoring for Saturday, Robert Collingwood finished fourth in the shot with a throw of 53'7" and his twin brother Richard was seventh with a throw of 51'11.25".
Justin Sims advanced to the finals of the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.51 and followed that with a qualifying time of 10.69 in the 100 meters to advance to the finals Sunday.
Julien Bousquet ran a time of 1:53.95 in the 800 meters and advanced to the finals.
On the women's side, Tori Bowie was third in the long jump with a mark of 20'5.75", followed by a seventh-place finish by Ashley May with a jump of 19'8.25", scoring eight points for Southern Miss.
Zuna Portillo-Rodriguez chipped in a point in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, finishing eighth with a time of 11:02.84.
Chastity Riggien and Bowie ran times of 11.40 and 11.76, respectively, in the 100 meters to advance to the finals. Riggien also advanced to the finals of the 200 meters after posting a time of 23.60. Bowie just missed advancing to that final with a time of 23.98 and finishing ninth overall.
The conclusion of the championship is slated to begin at 12 p.m., central, with field events. The finals of the running events will begin at 5 p.m.
