Eight First Place Showings Highlight Southern Miss Invitational Track Meet

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's and women's track teams captured eight first-place finishes in its own track meet, the Southern Miss Invitational, here Saturday at the Marshall L. Bell Track Complex.
On the women's side, Tori Bowie captured a pair of first-place finishes with a top time of 24.55 in the women's 200 meters and best mark of 6.27 meters in the long jump. Bowie bested Ashley May in the long jump, who finished second with a leap of 5.64 meters. May also won the triple jump with a mark of 11.67 meters.
Krista Moylan won the 1500 meter run by almost 12 seconds, posting a time of 4:50.43, while Stephanie Ledgerwood came in third at 5:02.48.
The Southern Miss `A' 4x100 relay team was the only team top showing with a 46.60 time.
For the men, all three of their first-place finishes came in the field events. Marcus Norwood won the high jump (2.01 meters), while Robert Collingwood (15.95 meters) captured the shot put and Suyi Georgewill (52.48 meters) had the best throw in the hammer.
Other top finishes for the Golden Eagle women included a second place performance in the shot put for Candace Burgard, with a throw of 12.06 meters, while Cara Wells had a 39.60 meter heave in the discus throw for a second place.
Tandra Patterson captured third in the 100 meters race with a 12.40, while Zuna Portillo grabbed a third place finish in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:23.45. Petra Visic posted the third-best throw in the hammer at 50.56 meters.
Other top USM male finishes included a second place from Ramon Crockett in the long jump with a leap of 7.09 meters, while Noah Slater registered a third-place showing in the javelin with a throw of 56.25 meters.
