Track and Field Team Gets Local Flavor

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss track and field will get a touch of local flavor for the 2009-2010 academic year with the addition of John Caleb Grenn, Ethan Hoff, Samantha Leslie and Seth Powell.
All four competed at Presbyterian Christian School in Hattiesburg where they helped PCS place in the top echelon of the Mississippi Private Schools in track and field.
Grenn lettered in cross country and track and field, receiving all-state for three straight years. He competed in the 400-, 800-, 1,600-, 5,000-meters. Grenn placed first in the 800 meters in 2008 and helped PCS capture the cross country state championship in 2007. He was a three-time all-state selection in cross country. Grenn was named the Forrest General Scholar Athlete and was named the Hattiesburg American Top Other Sports Athlete.
Hoff was a three year letterwinner in track and two-year letterwinner in cross country. He was an all-state selection in cross country in 2007 and 2008. He also earned letters in soccer, garnering all-state honors as well. Hoff posted personal best times 2:04 in the 800 meters, 4:47 in the 1,600 meters and 17:53 in the 5,000 meters, graduating with honors.
Leslie earned letters in track, soccer, basketball and tennis. She was an overall state champion in the long jump and as a member of the 4x400-meter relay. Leslie recorded a personal best mark of 18'1/4" in the long jump. She participated in the soccer all-star game and earned all-south and all-conference in soccer. Leslie received the highest average award and was an A-honor roll student.
Powell was a three-year letterwinner in track and field and earned two letters in football. He recorded a personal best throw of 111' in the discus. Powell was a honor roll student.
