TULAS, Okla. - Southern Miss' Vincent Tanui finished second in the 10,000 meters with a time of 30:42.41, helping the Golden Eagles to third place with 10 points in the first day of competition at the 2009 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium in Tulsa., Okla.

Aaron Ammons placed seventh in the hammer with a throw of 48.37m (158-08).

The competition resumes Friday.
